A retail sales manager or department manager is responsible for the day-to-day management of a specific department or area of a store in accordance with overall company policy.

The retail sales manager or department manager has responsibility for a number of activities ranging from direct sales activity on the shop floor to store operations such as administration, stock control, visual merchandising, security and customer service. Sales managers and department managers will usually have to demonstrate good organisation skills, fantastic customer service delivery and competent team leadership ability.
