Who are we?Somerfield is a food retail chain with big ambitions: we want to become Britain’s favourite local grocery shop. We plan to open another 250 shops between 2008 and the end of 2010. We’re passionate about offering the seven million customers who visit our stores every week what they want, when they want it. Fresher foods, friendlier service, lower prices, improved availability and a wider range of products to choose from – that’s Somerfield. We’ve around 900 stores in market towns, city centres, even the tiniest of villages, and our network spans the UK from Wick to Lands End, Anglesey to the Isle of Wight. But wherever our stores are located, one thing remains constant: we’re always right at the heart of local communities. It takes over 40,000 dedicated people to provide the customer experience we take pride in. Another 800 work at our Bristol Support Centre – they spend their days supporting the stores and helping our people achieve their full potential. Where we’re going At the moment we’re undergoing a phase of dynamic repositioning, making major changes and improvements. We’re focused on fulfilling a number of promises to our customers: • Giving them what they want, when they want it • Offering basic items at the best price locally • Making prices understandable and trustworthy • Offering a quick, easy, friendly service • And finally, making sure our colleagues are always friendly, engaging and helpful at all times. Whether we’re offering convenience and quality at great prices in our petrol station forecourts (we’ve won ‘Best Convenience Forecourt Retailer’ for 2008) or providing more than you might expect at our larger local supermarket, we plan to do it better, simpler and faster than the rest. After all, the convenience market’s continually growing, and we want to be right at the forefront of all that expansion.
